Cellular Honeycomb Blinds
Pleated fabric forming hexagonal air cells — the best-insulating interior blind made, and a genuinely useful answer to a corridor that runs a proper wet, cool winter close to the mountain.
The honest energy pitch
Trapped air is insulation. Single cells suit a mild room; double cells do serious thermal work — a cooler room in summer, a warmer one in winter, and quieter too, since the cell structure absorbs some sound. We keep the claim qualitative — real comfort and a lower heating and cooling load — rather than inventing a percentage nobody can verify against your specific house.
02Why it suits this corridor
Homes closer to the Constantiaberg range carry a genuinely wetter, cooler winter than the flatter streets further out — the same weather system that makes neighbouring Newlands the wettest suburb in the country. An older Wynberg cottage or a single-glazed 1950s Plumstead window loses real heat through the glass on those mornings, and a cellular blind's trapped-air layer is a straightforward, honest way to soften that.
03Options
Light-filtering or blockout cell fabrics — blockout gives a bedroom genuine darkness with the thermal bonus built in. Top-down/bottom-up operation lets you drop privacy from the top while keeping sky and light at the bottom, ideal for a street-facing window. Cordless and motorised control are both available, and the stack is the slimmest of any blind when raised.
- The best-insulating interior blind we fit, genuinely useful in a wet-winter corridor
- Blockout cells for nurseries and bedrooms needing real dark
- Skylight and shaped-window versions exist — the cell structure holds shape on an angle
One honest limit
Cellular fabric is a comfort and light-control product, not a structural draught seal — an old, ill-fitting sash frame with real gaps around it needs its own attention first. We'll say so plainly rather than oversell the blind as a fix for the frame.
A frequent choice for older, single-glazed windows in Wynberg, Plumstead and Diep River, and for nurseries anywhere across the corridor.
