Blinds, Roller Shutters & Awnings, Wynberg
Wynberg's history runs back to 1657, and its old village core — thatched Cape vernacular cottages, Victorian villas, fine Regency detailing — is one of the few pockets this close to the city to have kept its historic character intact.
Consent first, product second
Old Wynberg Village sits inside a formal City of Cape Town Heritage Protection Overlay Zone, gazetted in 2012 — a fact that changes the order we do things in, not just what we recommend.
The heritage overlay comes before the spec sheet
Work on existing structures inside the Wynberg Village heritage zone — including a visible exterior blind, shutter or awning fixing — needs to sit within the City's heritage guidelines. We ask the consent question at the enquiry stage, before we ever propose a product, so nobody's quoted something that can't get approved.
Thatch, sash and Regency proportions
The village holds the largest surviving concentration of traditional Cape thatched cottages anywhere in Cape Town, alongside Victorian homes and fine Regency detailing. Original window openings tend to run small and shallow — a timber venetian or a close-fitted roller usually respects the proportions better than a bulky pelmet system.
A retirement posting that became a settled suburb
Wynberg became a favoured retirement address for British colonial civil servants through the 1800s, and the restoration of the old village began in earnest around 1954. That's seven decades of careful upkeep behind the streetscape you see today — we measure with the same care, not a one-size fits-all install.
Beyond the village core
Wynberg's wider streets, outside the strict heritage boundary, run a broader mix of family homes with more everyday renovation freedom — bay windows, extensions and modern glazing sit alongside the historic core, and we spec those the same way we would anywhere else in the corridor.
Alongside Wynberg, we measure and fit throughout the neighbouring Southern Suburbs corridor.
